PRAGMALINGUISTICS OF HUMOR IN DIFFERENT LANGUAGES AROUND THE WORLD

Humor is a universal aspect of human communication, yet it manifests uniquely across different languages and cultures. This paper examines the pragmalinguistics of humor, focusing on how linguistic structures, cultural norms, and contextual understanding shape humorous expressions worldwide. Through an analysis of phonological, lexical, and syntactic humor, as well as cultural pragmatics such as taboos and shared knowledge, the study explores the complexities of humor in cross-cultural communication. It also highlights the challenges of translating humor and the rise of hybrid humor styles in a globalized world. The findings emphasize the importance of understanding the interplay between language and culture in fostering cross-cultural connection through humor.
